During the
years of 1921-22 a small group of Circleville business and professional
men believed the city needed a service club. A delegation from the
Chillicothe Rotary Club convinced these men that Rotary was the best
organization to meet their needs.
On February
22 1922, charter no 1807 was presented to the Circleville Rotary Club.
This charter meeting had over 200 Rotarians in attendance from Circleville
and a number of surrounding cities. Twenty-three of these comprised the
new Circleville club. Today there are over 130 members.
The
Circleville Noon Rotary has generated four district governors.
One of the
club's first projects was in connection with the Ohio Society for Crippled
Children and involved a local clinic. Other major projects over the years
included Red Cross blood donor recruitment, institution of a Lifeline
program, a safeguard for senior citizens, participation in District's
669's,
Honduras Water Well Project In the 1980's, financial support for
education, contributions to the Rotary International Polio Plus campaign,
and sponsorship of second Rotary club, the Circleville Sunrise Rotary
club.
