All pilot license owners were fined as well.

Dan Fouts was fined for being honored at the Boy Scouts’ annual fundraiser.  Jeff offered to pay the fines himself.

Chris Mullins was told to pay a buck for his involvement in that same event, but Glenn Reeser offered to pay on Chris’ behalf.

Everyone involved with the Circleville Pumpkin Show Committee had to toss in a dollar because the Show made money last year.

All members who have their Rotary anniversary in August were asked to pay a fine.

All birthdays & wedding anniversaries in August had to toss in $1.

P3 Board members were recognized (and asked to pay!) for their work at getting the funds for the former TCE site.

Lottery:  Bill Stout raised some eyebrows by having the lucky ticket and gaining $23, but the golden pebble remained undiscovered.  The pot has grown to $1,521.

Program:  Dave Webb introduced today’s speaker, Mike Allen.  Mike & his wife are the owners of MOTOHIO, which is a dealership of European motorbikes.  Dave admitted that he & his wife, Leigh, are “repeat customers” of MOTOHIO.  Mike & his wife have been married for 34 years and have three children.  Mike has been racing motorcycles for approximately 40 years.  After retiring from IBM, Mike & his wife established MOTOHIO.

After Dave’s humorous introduction, Mike stepped to the podium and relayed a brief history of he & his wife’s love for motorcycles, and of how that led to MOTOHIO.  (Mike confessed to having 17 motorbikes at their home.) Their dealership handles 6 different brands: Ducati, BMW, Genuine, Husqvarna, Triumph, and Vespa.  They are located on a 1 ¼ acre site in a 2-story tall building in Columbus.

Here are some of the highlights:

·        Ohio is the 5th largest in number of registered motorcyclists.

·        Number of motorcyclists increase as the price of gas increases.

·        Amount of female motorcyclists is increasing as well.

·        3-5 motorbikes can fit into one regular-sized parking spot.

·        Motorbike usage reduces traffic congestion.

·        Motorcyclists, as a whole, are more aware and alert.

·        Mike had a 2010 Triumph Bonneville on display.  It was constructed with the original 1960 design to give a retro feel, but has modern features.  The Bonneville was used in Marlon Brando’s movie “Wild One,” and more recently in the new movie “Salt.”

·        Triumph is the highest selling brand.  The factory is located in a suburb in England.  The original factory burnt down, but was bought & resurrected in the 1990.

·        MOTOHIO strongly stresses safety, and supports the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF).  Mike brought in a pocket-sized safety brochure and a “Program Information Book” from the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

·        Ohio Dept. of Public Safety has a website for motorcycle information:  www.motocycle.ohio.gov

·        MOTOHIO has several groups and events that they support:

o       R.A.T. Pack (Riders Association of Triumph): www.motohiorats.com

o       W.O.W. (Women On Wheels): local branch of Buckeye State Lady Riders.

o       Euro Bike Night: www.motohio.com

·        The defining factor of when someone would need a motorcycle endorsement to operate something motorized: “If it has pedals, then you don’t need one.  If it doesn’t, then you do.”

In summary, Mike said that making a motorbike purchase boils down to 4 things:

1.      Find the bike that really fits you!

2.      Consider the safety issues.

3.      Motorbikes are economical.

4.      The dealership should support you after the sale!

Meeting adjourned.

August’s program schedule:  (as submitted by Dave Webb)

·        19th – Gerhard Maroscher: Experiences as a WWII refugee.
